Award-Winning Economist and Policy Analyst, Robin will Help Grow Deetken’s Presence in Ontario

Vancouver, B.C. and Ottawa, O.N. – February 5, 2024 – Deetken Insight (“Deetken”), a management consulting firm headquartered in Vancouver, is pleased to announce it has named Robin Shaban (they/them) as a new Associate Partner at the company. Based in Ottawa, Robin will lead Deetken’s operations in Ontario and will help the company enhance its capacity to serve clients in Ontario.

Robin is a well-known economist and policy analyst with expertise in using empirical research to solve complex public policy problems. A leading thinker on Canadian competition policy and law and on economic, social and cultural inclusion, Robin has published original research and is a frequent public speaker and media commentator on anti-monopoly issues and social justice. In 2021, they were a recipient of The Globe and Mails Changemaker Award for their efforts to advance public policy centered on advancing social justice and their academic work on competition policy.

Prior to joining Deetken, Robin was a co-founder of Vivic Research, an economic consulting firm dedicated to empowering social justice causes with data-driven research. They are also co-founder of the Canadian Anti-Monopoly Project, a think tank that is dedicated to addressing pressing issues caused by monopoly power in Canada.

Robin is a PhD candidate at Carleton University’s School of Public Policy and Administration where they are studying competition policy in Canada and internationally, and the role of economic efficiency in shaping these policies. Robin holds a Master of Arts in Economics from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics (Honours) from the University of Alberta. Robin is a fellow at Public Policy Forum, an Ottawa-based independent, non-partisan, non-profit organization whose members are dedicated to advancing good public policy in Canada.
