Tell us about your background.

I moved to Canada in 2020 from Pakistan. While my background and degrees are in economics, I have always had a deep passion for sports and sports analytics. In Pakistan, I had incredible opportunities to work as a cricket journalist and analyst, which let me combine my professional world with my love for the game of cricket. Before university, I even had a short stint as a professional under-19 cricket player, giving me a lifetime of experiences and memories that I carry with me into every new challenge and journey.

What brought you to Deetken Insight?

Moving to Canada has been a very exciting chapter of my life, offering new opportunities to further my professional and personal growth. Deetken has been a big part of that journey.

I learned about Deetken Insight through a recruitment session at my university, SFU. The nature of the work, involving analytics, economics, and most importantly, engagement with all kinds of different communities and industries, really spoke to me. The team that came to recruit at SFU seemed very passionate about what they did and their emphasis on Deetken’s incredible core values really sold me on the idea that this was a team I would love to be a part of.

You celebrated your 2-year anniversary at Deetken in June. What has been your biggest accomplishment over the past 2 years and why?

Professionally, my biggest accomplishment has been my promotion to Senior Associate, which signifies the trust I have been able to build with my managers and clients over the years. It brings responsibilities that I have enjoyed, including an increased independence in client engagement and has brought me a lot closer to the vision of the kind of analyst / economist I seek to become.

However, I am also proud of the amazing connections and friendships I have been able to make along the way. Deetken has a very diverse team and it has been amazing hearing the stories of people from so many different backgrounds over the years.

What are your summer plans?

Having recently moved to Toronto, I am looking to explore more of the city and its many activities with family and friends. I am also planning to travel more around North America to places that have been on my bucket list for a long time, like New York and LA!
